Ever hear someone say, “Take a day off. You’re fine. Skip it. It’s just 15 minutes. It won’t kill you”? I hate that. Something not killing you isn’t the point. Of course, breaks are fine, but skipping one thing many times is what gets you.
Compounding goes both ways. Skipping a practice session one time won’t kill you, but one might lead to two, three, and so forth…
And each time you don’t do the action, the exponential growth shrinks. If you only do something for 75% of the day, you’ll get 15x the growth. Half of what everyday would give you…
15 minutes is only 1% of your day. So, if you want to get 37 TIMES better at something, practice it for 15 minutes each day for a year.
Reading for 15 minutes probably won’t change your life – if you do it once. But, if you read for 15 minutes, 100 times – it probably will.
Like the time when I meditated for two years straight and became less reactive, more of a stoic.
Or when I went a year without desserts. I felt incredibly better, without sugar, my baseline energy levels raised.
Or the time when I journaled each day for a year. My writing ability skyrocketed. This daily habit helped develop my love for writing. The growth from that single habit has led to awesome growth and opportunities. (Also, I can see what I did every single day for that year, kinda cool).
Now, the same is true for working out, practicing guitar, basketball, soccer, or improving a relationship. Whatever.
Do it once and you’ll be a teeny-tiny-bit better. Do it 100 times and you’ll be way better. Do it 1000 times and you won’t be the same.
Compounding is exponential.
Think of something you want to improve, because this week, you’re going to spend 15 minutes doing it. Maybe it's biking, stretching, lifting. Maybe it's reading, journaling, or meditating. Maybe it's practicing guitar, basketball, or soccer.
Once you've identified it, improve it. 15 minutes a day is all it takes. You got this.
Start compounding. Then, keep it going.
See you next week,
Dylan
